Residents were invited to an Open Meeting at Shillington Village Hall on Monday evening 25 June 2007.
Below is an outline of why we as a community need a Parish Plan.
Notes from the above meeting are appended, as are minutes of subsequent meetings and a first pass exercise of what we as a community think about our village.
As we progress with the project, every household in the parish will receive a questionnaire for completion and return to the Steering Group, so that all the data can be gathered together to create our Parish Plan.

A Parish Plan is an opportunity for the whole community to voice their opinion on what action they wish to see taken in their local area in the future.
We as residents decide what is important to us, what features and characteristics of the parish we value, what we see as local problems and opportunities, how we want the community to develop in the future and most importantly, what we or others need to do to make our vision become a reality.
The production of Parish Plans is part of the Government`s agenda for putting people at the heart of their communities. The Parish Plan process enables us to become fully involved in supporting our community and gives us the opportunity to shape the decisions that affect our parish.
The Parish Plan is an opportunity for the community to look forward for the next 5-10 years rather than just responding to tasks that arise and need immediate action. It will provide us with a collective view of what our community wants, providing us with a stronger voice. It will provide us with evidence of need and commitment, which may be used to influence local authorities, service providers and funders.
To produce a Parish Plan we will need volunteers to come forward to help out. We appreciate that everyone is busy, but it does not matter how much time you`ve got to give, every little bit helps. We are looking for committee members, members for topic groups - e.g. environment, transport, volunteers to help out at events, deliver/collect questionnaires etc.
